Lay Summary :
In general hospitals in the UK, there is a high rate of admissions for acute illnesses that can otherwise be treated with the appropriate health service (e.g., at the GP or at community settings), however, there are differences in rates between certain patients with mental health conditions compared to the general public. This project will provide details of the differences in rates for avoidable hospital admissions for acute medical illnesses for the population under mental health care, to those in the general population in South London. If we are able to find evidence of which population groups have high rates of avoidable hospitalisations, we can carry out interventions to treat them at the right place at the first opportunity.
