Multimorbidity progression to mild cognitive impairment: Patient journey from primary care to mental health services

  • Applicant: Rebecca Bendayan
  • Project ID: 19-112

There is an urgent need for research to understand how multimorbidity develops over the life, how individuals progress from the diagnoses of a first single chronic health condition to subsequent ones, and how these changes are associated with cognitive performance. This project aims to address these questions by using CRIS linked data with primary care data (Lambeth Datanet) and we will first explore the most common patterns of mutimorbidity and then focus on common cluster of chronic health conditions suffered by older adults; for example, hypertension, depression and mild cognitive impairment or dementia.

The Clinical Record Interactive Search (CRIS) system is a computer system that allows researchers at the NIHR Maudsley Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) to carry out research using information from South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust clinical records.
