Association between antidepressants prescribing, oral anticoagulants and risk of bleeding
Anticoagulation (blood-thinning) is recommended in patients with irregular heart rhythms to prevent stroke. Newer blood thinners, called direct oral anticoagulants, have been recommended for this since 2014. However, antidepressants are not allowed to be used in conjunction with these as this could increase the risk of bleeding. This study aims to examine whether there is an increased risk of bleeding in those taking newer blood thinners and antidepressants together.
