The Remote Assessment of Disease and Relapse – Alzheimer’s Disease (RADAR-AD) study is researching whether wearable devices, such as FitBit, can more accurately monitor how a person with Alzheimer’s disease is functioning as they go about their daily lives, and whether there is any decline in their condition. The devices and smartphone apps are measuring activities that are important to people living with dementia, such as sleep, shopping and using technology. Participants will wear the devices and use smartphone apps over an 8 week period and these measurements will be compared with standard clinical assessments. If wearable devices and technologies can detect early signs of functional and cognitive decline, before standard clinical assessments, patients will be able to access relevant healthcare earlier. This could help patients to manage their condition better and live independently for longer.
