Using the CRIS-NCRAS linkage to investigate the association between multiple primary malignancies and severe mental illness (SMI)

Does pre-existing SMI affect the onset of secondary malignancies? Using the CRIS and cancer registry linkage (NCRAS), the project will compare the prevalence of secondary tumours in those with pre-existing SMI, such as schizophrenia, BPD, major depression, and psychosis, to those with other mental illnesses, such as eating disorders and anxiety, and a control group of no psychiatric comorbidities.

The Clinical Record Interactive Search (CRIS) system is a computer system that allows researchers at the NIHR Maudsley Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) to carry out research using information from South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust clinical records.
