Fathers receiving substance use treatment
This project will: 1) investigate the characteristics of fathers of dependent children receiving treatment for substance use, comparing the characteristics of fathers vs non-fathers and the characteristics of fathers non-involved in care proceedings vs those involved in care proceedings; 2) carry out a qualitative content analysis of free-text notes from all fathers identified as involved in care proceedings to understand family dynamics – specifically, the relationship with the child (e.g., living together, sporadically meeting), the relationship with the child’s mother and dynamics involved (e.g., mutual substance use, violent relationship), and the role of the extended family (e.g. whether there is support from other family members with the child).
