Risk of bipolar affective disorder in women first presenting to mental health services during the perinatal period

Many individuals with bipolar affective disorder receive a late diagnosis, and there is a higher risk of bipolar affective disorder for women presenting with onset of mental health problems in the postnatal period. This project aims to identify risk for bipolar disorder in women first presenting with mental illness in the perinatal period.

The Clinical Record Interactive Search (CRIS) system is a computer system that allows researchers at the NIHR Maudsley Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) to carry out research using information from South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust clinical records.
