Classifying mental illnesses using artificial intelligence

  • Applicant: Laith Alexander

The way we classify mental illness remains controversial and based on decades-old clinical observations. Using thousands of patients’ initial medical assessments, we aim to use artificial intelligence to cluster patients into diagnostic categories with more relevance to the causes and treatment of mental health problems. This algorithm will generate categories of patients presenting with similar underlying clinical features, and in the future could be used to assist clinicians in making diagnoses.
