Is there a delay in identification and management of cardiometabolic disease in individuals with first episode psychosis?
The project is aimed at finding out how well we identify and manage cardiometabolic conditions in people with increased risk due to severe mental illness. Cardiometabolic diseases will include diabetes, hypertension, obesity, chronic kidney disease and dyslipidemia. We plan to use CRIS to identify patients with a blood test or physical examination such as blood sugars or blood pressure that is above the normal reference range and determine how many of these patients have a diagnosis of the relevant disease. We will then take a sample of patients with a established diagnosis and determine how long it took before the diagnosis/treatment was made from the raised blood or physical examination parameter. The project will address gaps in management of cardiometabolic conditions leading to a reduction in preventable causes of excess mortality.
