Exploring the role of sociodemographic factors in the association between referral reasons and autism spectrum disorder diagnosis: a quantitative analysis

Factors like ethnicity, age, and social class can affect when or if a child is accurately diagnosed with autism, yet little is known about how these factors influence professionals’ decisions throughout the diagnostic process. This project aims to investigate the roles that social background on the reasons professionals refer for ASD, and the diagnosis outcome (i.e. whether a child receives a diagnosis or not).

The Clinical Record Interactive Search (CRIS) system is a computer system that allows researchers at the NIHR Maudsley Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) to carry out research using information from South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust clinical records.
