The prevalence of metabolic disease in patients with serious mental illness in South East London and targeted interventions'
Cardiometabolic disease plays a significant role in the premature mortality of patients with serious mental illness (SMI) (Firth et al. 2019); early identification and treatment of components of metabolic syndrome, including obesity, diabetes, hypertension and hypercholesterolaemia in people with SMI is therefore paramount. To guide future service provision and assess the level of unmet clinical need, we would like to conduct a service evaluation of SLaM to understand the prevalence of metabolic disease within the SMI patient population and their current level of metabolic treatment.
