Access and effectiveness of psychological interventions for psychosis in people experiencing socioeconomic adversity within the CRIS-FEP cohort.
This project focusses on the therapy recommended for psychosis, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for psychosis (CBTp). CBTp is an evidenced-based therapy which aims to help reduce distress associated with symptoms of psychosis – for example hearing voices or intense beliefs that others intend to harm you. However, some evidence suggests that the experience of this therapy is worse for marginalised groups. We will test whether people facing social and economic adversities (for example, poverty, housing issues, unemployment, victimisation, social isolation) are less likely to receive CBTp, and whether they are less likely to benefit from CBTp once they have received it, in the UK context. We will also explore these questions specifically in relation to those from minoritised ethnic backgrounds.
