February 19, 2013: Mortality among mental health service users aged 19 and over in England was 3.6 times the rate of the general population in 2010/11, new Health and Social Care Information Centre (HSCIC) figures show. Recent research has also concluded that within mental health preventable death from natural and unnatural causes needs to be better understood (Hoang, Stewart & Goldacre, 2011)* Following The Francis report, it is crucial that motility rates and causes are monitored. The service evaluation aims to look at mortality rates and causes over the past 3 years to identify any preventable causes of death including failure to rescue. The service evaluation will also investigate demographics including borough and age for the deaths over the past year. *Hoang, U., Stewart, R., & Goldacre, M.J. (2011).
