Use of CRIS to understand patterns of use of the Mental Health Act (1983)

Simon Wessely has been tasked by the Prime Minister to chair a commission to look at reform of the Mental Health Act, part of which involves using CRIS to investigate: a) any rise in involuntary admissions and (b) any excess of BME(Black and minority ethnic) people being admitted under section (this will be done as part of the Mental Health Act analysis group)

The Clinical Record Interactive Search (CRIS) system is a computer system that allows researchers at the NIHR Maudsley Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) to carry out research using information from South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust clinical records.
