A novel brain-based therapy for ADHD children using non-invasive transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS)combined with cognitive training | C4C
This is a randomised, placebo-control trial with a parallel design. 40 children/adolescents with ADHD will be administered cognitive training in conjunction with a non-invasive, side-effect free brain stimulation technique. Participants will undergo 15 daily training sessions (20 minutes training + brain stimulation; 20 minutes setup) over 3 weeks, with additional assessment sessions carried out pre, post, and 6-months later to measure immediate and longer-term treatment efficacy We expect brain functioning to be enhanced with cognitive training, leading to improvement on clinical and cognitive assessments for ADHD, with gains being more pronounced and longer lasting due to additional augmentation of brain activity with tDCS. This is in line with evidence that cognitive training can improve clinical outcomes in ADHD children, and with evidence from healthy and patient samples showing that tDCS can enhance cognitive/clinical outcomes, especially when applied over repeated sessions.
