Ascertaining recurrent falls around the time of a first dementia diagnosis
Many people with dementia are at risk of injury from falls, partly because of advanced old age, partly because of other co-occurring physical health conditions, and partly because some types of dementia (dementia with Lewy bodies) are characterised by recurrent falls. This project will develop some pre-existing CRIS ‘natural language processing’ code which currently ascertains any fall and will seek to ascertain records where someone is described as experiencing multiple falls. Using this information, subsequent dementia outcomes will be investigated.
