Medichec is an app developed by our team that helps to identify high risk medicines that can cause various side effects including low blood sodium levels. It is important to check to see whether the medicines identified on the app as potentially causing low blood sodium levels, do so in clinical practice. The project will aim to investigate whether medications identified as causing low blood sodium levels on the Medichec app are associated with an increase in mortality and hospitalisation (related to low blood sodium levels) in people with dementia. Antidepressants are usually associated with low blood sodium levels so we also aim to investigate whether older people prescribed an antidepressant will go on to develop low blood sodium levels requiring hospitalisation.
