Many psychiatric (especially antidepressants) and other medications have a tendency to reduce the sodium levels in the body, this is called hyponatremia. Hyponatremia is detected using a blood test. This can affect the way the heart beats, it can cause acute confusion, seizures and death to name a few. We want to find out whether prescription of those medications is associated with a higher risk of low sodium, dying or being admitted to hospital.
