The trial is a pragmatic two arm, observer blind randomised controlled trial of patients who have experienced persistent, undesired auditory hallucinations for at least 12 months despite treatment with medication, comparing computer assisted voice therapy (AVATAR) to supportive counselling therapy.

The Clinical Record Interactive Search (CRIS) system is a computer system that allows researchers at the NIHR Maudsley Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) to carry out research using information from South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust clinical records.
