Development and Validation of a questionnaire measure of unusual olfactory beliefs and expereiences | C4C

  • Applicant: Rhani Allen-Crooks
  • Project ID: 15-062

The proposed study will examine unusual olfactory beliefs and experiences. Such phenomena occur in psychotic and non-psychotic mental health presentations, and are also reported in nonclinical populations, but no validated measure of these experiences has yet been developed. The aims of the current study are therefore to develop and validate a questionnaire measure of unusual olfactory beliefs and experiences (UOBEs). The proposed measure will initially be developed in consultation with therapists and people experiencing UOBEs, to ensure relevant characteristics are captured. The study aims to produce a reliable and valid self report measure that aids detection and thereby improves access to interventions for people with distressing olfactory experiences within clinical services.
