Development of a pain application to explore mentions of pain within the CRIS database using natural language processing (NLP) techniques

  • Applicant: Jaya Chaturvedi
  • Project ID: 21-021

The purpose of this project is to create an NLP application to explore and extract mentions of pain within the free text of electronic health records (EHR) from the CRIS database and generate a graphical representation of the mentions and their features, such as symptoms, mental health disorders, and medications. This will be used to explore relationships and outcomes associated with pain and mental health issues.

The Clinical Record Interactive Search (CRIS) system is a computer system that allows researchers at the NIHR Maudsley Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) to carry out research using information from South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust clinical records.
