Exploring Carer-Inclusive Practice in the Southwark Assertive Outreach and Rehabilitation Team and Evaluating the Five Step Method across South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust

‘Unpaid carers supporting people with severe mental illness often experience significant psychological distress and feel unsupported by mental health services, highlighting the need to evaluate whether dedicated carer interventions are achieving their intended outcomes. This project will use existing NHS records to look at how many carers across SLaM have taken part in a structured support programme called the Five Step method, and whether it has helped improve their wellbeing. It will also look at how well the service has been involving and supporting carers within one specific team (Assertive Outreach and Rehabilitation Team), to understand what progress has been made and where further improvements are needed.’
