Functional Neurological Disorder among South London and Maudsley service users: Prevalence, symptom profiles, and overlap with other neuropsychiatric disorders using anonymised clinical records

Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) is a common cause of genuine and often disabling neurological symptoms such as weakness, balance problems, seizure-like episodes and tremors. Symptoms such as these are also reported in people with other conditions, particularly psychosis, but we think that they may be classified differently by health professionals. This might mean that opportunities for specific treatments are missed. We would like to use anonymised electronic health records from CRIS to see how often these neurological symptoms are reported in people with a diagnosis of FND, psychosis and related problems in order to understand how they are currently classified, explained to patients and treated.

The Clinical Record Interactive Search (CRIS) system is a computer system that allows researchers at the NIHR Maudsley Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) to carry out research using information from South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust clinical records.
