Missed Diagnosis or Misdiagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder in adolescent patients who present Psychotic Disorder or Psychotic Symptoms.
Diagnosing Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in adolescents and young adults can be difficult, especially in those with fewer symptoms. In these cases, the disorder is often diagnosed later in life or only after other conditions associated with autism, like a psychotic disorder, are identified.
It can also be hard to tell the difference between autism and a psychotic disorder. The rigid thinking seen in autism may be confused with unusual beliefs in psychosis, while unusual behaviours in autism might be mistaken for disorganized behaviours in psychosis.
