Rates and patterns of physical health comorbidities in first episode psychosis

  • Applicant: Sheri Oduola
  • Project ID: 26-061

Evidence shows that people who receive treatment soon after a first episode of psychosis (FEP) have better long-term outcomes, making this an important period for preventing future physical health problems. However, there is limited evidence on physical health outcomes in people with FEP, as most research has focused on individuals with long-standing and severe psychotic disorders such as schizophrenia. This population-based study will follow people who were diagnosed with FEP more than 15 years ago to examine when physical health conditions develop after FEP and identify which groups are at greatest risk, helping to inform targeted prevention and treatment strategies.
