Stroke prevention in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) and co-morbid physical and mental health problems

  • Applicant: Dina Farran
  • Project ID: 21-047

The aim of this project is to investigate whether there is inequality in the prescription rate of oral anticoagulants for atrial fibrillation (AF) in patients with severe mental illness (SMI) or dementia compared to the general population. The project will identify patients with both AF and SMI or dementia in SLAM who are at high risk of stroke and determine the proportion of those who have not been prescribed an oral anticoagulant (OAC) despite being eligible.
