Tetrabenazine prescribing and the recording of tardive dyskinesia at South London and Maudsley: a descriptive study using CRIS

  • Applicant: Mohamed Fareen
  • Project ID: 26-089

Tetrabenazine is the main medicine used in the UK to treat tardive dyskinesia, a movement disorder caused by long-term antipsychotic treatment, and there is very little information on how it is prescribed and monitored in routine mental health care. This project will use anonymised SLaM records to describe who receives tetrabenazine, how tardive dyskinesia and its severity are recorded, how antipsychotic treatment is managed when tetrabenazine is started, and what side effects and outcomes follow.

The Clinical Record Interactive Search (CRIS) system is a computer system that allows researchers at the NIHR Maudsley Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) to carry out research using information from South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust clinical records.
