The impact of parental substance misuse on children mental health

  • Applicant: Martha Canfield

In our current research using CRIS data, we found that 40% of women and 33% of men attending SLaM substance use services are recorded as being parents and that it is not uncommon to these parents to have a child receiving care in child and adolescent mental services. We would like to expand the focus of our research to children affected by parental substance misuse with the aim of investigating the mechanisms by which parental substance misuse may impact mental health of the children.

The Clinical Record Interactive Search (CRIS) system is a computer system that allows researchers at the NIHR Maudsley Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) to carry out research using information from South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust clinical records.
